Here are some pictures from yesterday’s inaugural SNS conference at the Radisson Blu Hotel in Glasgow yesterday (April 24).  Organised in association with First ScotRail, it brought together senior figures from the Scottish newspaper industry to discuss a wide range of current issues.

Above is SNS vice president Ellis Watson, First Minster Alex Salmond and SNS director John McLellan with the Ryder Cup, which was brought along by Scottish Press Awards sponsor Diageo and was on display throughout the awards even later in the evening. Drinks multi-national Diageo is the owner of the Gleneagles Hotel where the Ryder Cup tournament will be staged in September.

First ScotRail managing director Steve Montgomery opens the conference. Professor Philip Schlesinger of Glasgow University  speaks about the digital future for newspapers and the impact of the BBC.

Second row: Sunday Herald editor Richard Walker explains his newspaper’s approach to investigation. The Herald & Times head of digital innovation Grant Gibson maps out a strategy for digital revenue generation. DC Thomson Publishing CEO Ellis Watson issues an impassioned plea for  the newspaper industry to build for a positive future.

Bottom Lord Black of Brentwood gives his views on the threats to Press freedom in the UK.
