Forfar boss hopes to handcuff Tod

Forfar manager Dick Campbell is to hold talks with veteran defender Andy Tod to try to convince him to carry on playing as the club prepare for life in the second division next season.

Campbell will also be looking to hold re-signing talks with other unnamed members of his promotion-winning squad the vast majority of whom are out of contract in the near future but he admitted he is only looking to add possibly three new faces to his roster.

“Andy Tod is now 40 and is hoping to join the police,” said Campbell. “But I am going to have talks with him to persuade him to play on.

“He is a player I have a lot of respect for and there is a contract waiting for him if he wants it.

“There are three or four others I will be talking to soon about re-signing.

“Most of my players did a magnificent job last season and I am excited that no one wants to leave the club.

“I believe this is a squad that can only get better.”

Despite confidence in the ability of his present players, Campbell admitted he would like to freshen things up a bit.

“I will have the same budget as last year but there is no point in moaning as everyone is in the same boat,” he said.

“We have to be realistic because of the crowds we get at this level.

“However, I would still like to add another three new signings.”

Campbell also hopes that two of his existing players can increase the options at his disposal after missing out on the promotion push because of serious injury.

“Alastair Divine and Darren Brady both suffered cruciate ligament injuries before the season started,” he added.

“They never kicked a ball for us last term but we will not be ditching them as that is not how this club or myself operates.

“They will be offered new contracts and if they accept then it will be like having two new signings.”
