The mood in the two camps following Saturday’s Tayside derby could not have been more different.
St Johnstone were delighted to have secured a deserved victory at Dens which takes them to within just four points of Inverness in third, albeit having played one game more.
Dundee have rightly received lots of praise for securing a place in the top six in what is their first season back in the top-tier of Scottish football.
However, not for the first time, the achievements of Tommy Wright and his squad have gone largely unrecognised.
The fact Saints are in the position they are in after only scoring 31 league goals all season speaks volumes for their work ethic and togetherness as a team to put that stat in perspective, second bottom Motherwell have scored two more.
The win over Dundee sets things up nicely for the visit of Inverness to McDiarmid next Saturday.
Before that, Dundee face the daunting prospect of a trip to Celtic Park on Friday night.
Dark Blues boss Paul Hartley did not pull his punches after Saturday’s game saying: “That was our worst performance of the season by far. We had no spark, no energy, no cutting edge.”
He certainly wasn’t wrong in that assessment with many home fans heading for the exits when Saints second goal went in, despite the fact there were still more than 20 minutes remaining.
There can certainly be no repeat of the poor performance in the East End of Glasgow on Friday.
