Angus double at Rock Challenge event at Dundee’s Caird Hall

It was an Angus double tonight as the two-night Rock Challenge drew to a close at Dundee’s Caird Hall.

Dream Big, Shine Bright was the 2016 mission for pupils taking part in the nationwide initiative which aims to inspire youngsters aged 7 to 18.

Forfar Academy triumphed this evening in the senior competition with a performance which was entitled Chains of Egypt.

Strathmore Primary School achieved success in the junior section after performing Out of The Darkness and Into The Light.

Forfar Academy also picked up a string of excellence awards in areas including choreography, performance skill, stage use, concept, drama, soundtrack, set design and costuming.

Last year’s winners Arbroath High School, Morgan Academy, Perth High and the two Arbroath primaries of Inverbrothock and Warddykes also took part in tonight’s heat.

Due to their previous event success, Arbroath High School are one of the UK’s 12 Northern Premier Division schools, which means they were not eligible to place at tonight’s event.

Instead, they have automatically qualified through to the Rock Challenge Northern Premier Final taking place at Grimsby Auditorium in July.

Angus Council’s Strategic Director of People, Margo Williamson described the event as being “full of energy and full of verve”.

Kinross High triumphed in Tuesday night’s opening heat, with Arbroath Academy in the runner-up spot and Dundee’s St John’s RC High third.

The Scottish Final is due to take place at the Caird Hall on Friday June 17.
