A student chef from Blairgowrie, fresh from serving canapes at Buckingham Palace, has wowed guests at one of Britain’s oldest royal homes.
Darren Seggie was part of a City of Glasgow College team tasked with preparing finger food at St James’s Palace.
The team won the chance to cook at the prestigious London residence after impressing judges at a canape competition at Buckingham Palace last month.
The cook-off was attended by the Countess of Wessex and royal chef Mark Flanagan.
Darren, 26, said that cooking at the palace was surreal, but “the most fantastic week of my life.”
He added: “We got into the kitchens and prepared the canapes and the countess came around to speak to us.
“She was very supportive and a really lovely lady. She was in the judging panel and tasted the canapes and then it was revealed that we were the winners.”
The event at St James’s Palace marked the 50th anniversary of the Craft Guild of Chefs.
Darren is working towards an HND in professional cookery.
