Man’s threat to blow up Perth police HQ

Parkin threatened to blow up the police headquarters in Perth.
Parkin threatened to blow up the police headquarters in Perth.

A man has admitted threatening to murder police officers and blow up force HQ.

Sacha Parkin, 43, phoned the control room at Dundee twice on May 5 and made the chilling threats. Perth Sheriff Court heard that Parkin was intoxicated at the time he made the calls.

Depute fiscal Tina Dickie told the court: “At about 1.20am on May 31 the accused contacted the force control room in Dundee by telephone.

“A witness answered. The accused told him that the police never listened to him and next time they didn’t listen he was going to put a bomb in the station.

On being told the call was being recorded, Parkin started to swear and said: “You’re going to have a big problem. I’ve threatened murder I might even cut one of your officers on the street.”

Ms Dickie said that Parkin called again and made further threats.

Ms Dickie said: “The accused said: ‘Can you tell the police officers there’s going to be a second murder’.”

The telephone operator asked Parkin what he meant and he repeated his threats.

At this point police officers arrived at his flat and could be heard in the background of the call.

Solicitor David Holmes, defending, said police had asked that an appropriate adult sit with Parkin during questioning but that he had been judged fit to plead at court.

He said: “Mr Parkin seems to have had involvement with a police officer this was on his mind.”

Parkin, of Ruthvenvale Terrace, Auchterarder, pleaded guilty to making threats towards force headquarters in Dundee by shouting, swearing and threatening harm. The offence took place at Perth High Street on May 31.

Sheriff Mhari MacTaggart deferred sentence on Parkin for reports.
