A snow warning has been issued for Tayside and Fife with winter weather expected to endure across the local area into the beginning of next week.

The Met Office has issued a yellow warning for snow and ice, which will be in place from midnight until 2pm on Monday.

The past week has seen some of the coldest nights of the winter, with temperatures plummeting to a low of -14.4C in Braemar from Wednesday night into Thursday morning.

The forecaster said roads and rail services could be hit by the freezing conditions on Monday – with several inches of snow possible in parts of Perthshire, Fife and Angus.

The warning states: “A band of rain will readily turn to snow as it pushes east across parts of Scotland and northern England. Temporary accumulations of a few centimetres are likely at low levels, with higher ground (above about 150m/492ft) possibly seeing 3cm-6cm (1.1in-2.4in), locally more.

“Ice will be an additional hazard. Snow should become lighter and more patchy before dying out by early Monday afternoon.”

It comes after the forecaster said widespread snowfall is expected across Courier country on Sunday.

Coastal areas are only expected to get a small amount of snowfall but further west, including Perthshire, could see several inches of the white stuff.
