A direct link has been set up for isolated Angus residents to access the support they need during the Covid-19 pandemic.
The Humanitarian Assistance Angus Response Team (HAART) has been developed to lead on efforts locally and coordinate the work of volunteers to help vulnerable residents, including the most at risk who are in a 12-week isolation period.
People should visit www.taysidecares.co.uk first to register for this support but those who are unable to access the internet can use the telephone number 03452 777 778.
The service will be operate Monday to Friday from 10am to 8pm and from 10am to 2pm at weekends for the duration of the pandemic.
The HAART’s immediate focus will be those who live in Angus who have been identified by the NHS for ‘shielding’ as among the 200,000 across Scotland who have critical illness and have been told to self-isolate for a recommended period of 12 weeks, as well as older people and people severely affected financially.
Angus Council chief executive Margo Williamson said: “To ensure the safety of our residents, our volunteers will always carry ID and will not turn up unannounced.
“The volunteers are trained in self-protection measures.”
