Village roadworks led to bus services connecting Fife with Dundee being called off on Wednesday morning.

Stagecoach East Scotland cancelled a number of 99 services between the city and St Andrews due to temporary traffic lights in place at the New Bridge across the River Eden in Guardbridge.

Work, expected to last several months, is under way to repair arches at the crossing.

The 10.20am and 11.20am from St Andrews to Dundee, and the 10.45am and 11.45am running in the reverse direction were cancelled due to the issues.

Journeys between Tayport and Dundee were also called off.

And Stagecoach has warned that more journeys could be affected throughout the rest of the day.

The firm tweeted: “Temporary lights are expected in Guardbridge this morning so delays/cancellations to 99 services are likely.

“Delays also apply to the X24, X59, 23, 42 and 94/A services. Apologies in advance.”

The temporary traffic lights are said to have been removed just before noon on Tuesday with bus services returning to normal service.

Roadworks on the A91 St Andrews to Cupar road have been causing headaches for commuters for several weeks.

Work began in late June.

Updates on affected services can be found via Stagecoach East Scotland on Twitter.
