A Glasgow music festival has postponed a series of concerts until 2022 due to ongoing coronavirus restrictions.

Summer Nights was scheduled to take place at the city’s Kelvingrove Bandstand this summer, having already been pushed back last year due to the pandemic.

But with social distancing measures set to still be in place, organisers have decided to change the dates to July and August 2022.

Scots acts Primal Scream, Edwyn Collins and The Jesus & Mary Chain were among the sold-out gigs.

Other acts playing the event include Suzanne Vega, Belinda Carlisle, Rick Astley and Van Morrison. All artists will remain on the line-up for the rescheduled shows.

A statement from organisers said: “It is with a heavy heart that, due to the physical distancing and other measures that are still likely to still be in place in July, we have taken the decision to postpone this year’s Summer Nights at the Bandstand until summer 2022.

“The festival has a deserved reputation for being a very special experience for both audience and artists alike. For the audience it is seeing their favourite artists up close, the great atmosphere, mixing with friends and singing along with the crowd and for the artists, its connecting with the audience in such an intimate setting and feeling the energy from an arena full of excited fans.

“As much as we would dearly love to be able to return this summer, it will not be possible to go ahead with restrictions in place or to guarantee the experience that everyone has come to expect.

“We’d like to thank all ticket holders for their patience while we worked on this and are grateful to all of the artists for rescheduling their shows. We are delighted to confirm that we are able to keep the same line-up in place for 2022.”

Tickets for this year’s concerts are valid for the rescheduled shows in 2022. Refunds including booking fees are available from the point of purchase for those no longer able to attend.
