Then there’s Coronation Street star Catherine Tyldesley’s on-screen Hogmanay celebrations – non-stop smooching with a pop star!

Catherine’s Eva and Aidan, played by former X Factor winner Shayne Ward, see the old year out together.

“There’s been lots of flirting and it’s clear they fancy each other,” says Catherine. “Then, at the New Year’s Eve party, they end up snogging the face off each other for the whole night.

“The scene took an-hour-and-a-half to film. We were in the back of the shot so we basically had to snog for the whole time.

“Poor Shayne, I was wearing bright red lipstick which ended up all over him.”

Catherine says the relationship isn’t one that’d be raising eyebrows among the Weatherfield locals.

“I don’t think anyone is surprised. Leanne certainly isn’t surprised when she finds out he has stayed the night at the flat.

“I think people would like to see Eva happy. We have had a great response from fans on social media who seem to like the idea of them as a couple.”

But then Eva finds out that Aidan had a bet with Kate that he’d sleep with Eva before the year out.

A furious Eva throws a drink over him and Catherine admits it’s hardly the best of starts to a relationship.

However, Catherine confides that it doesn’t look like the end of things.

“We have filmed into the New Year and they seem to be developing as a couple.

“He does seem to be able to bring the best out in her. He thinks she’s bonkers, but he also see a more serious, intelligent side to her.

“We have got a more serious storyline coming up so you’ll see a different side to Eva.”

Catherine says she’s loving filming with Shayne and the pair were even reunited away from the cobbles when they featured in ITV’s ABBA Christmas Party.

“He’s such fun to work with,” she confides. “We get on really well and he makes me laugh.”

Eva only returned to screens in September as Catherine was on maternity leave having baby Alfie.

And the 32-year-old says she’s especially loved making a Rovers return.

“I missed it while I was away but I obviously loved being a mum,” she adds.

“I’m so lucky doing a job I love and make it work round being a mum. I still pinch myself sometimes when I’m in a Rovers scene.”
