People of all ages from Aberdeenshire are being encouraged to curl up with a selection of good books during the colder months.

Live Life Aberdeenshire is offering residents the chance to take part in the Winter Word Challenge scheme, either individually or together with friends or family, where the keenest readers will be rewarded with prizes.

A spokesman for the organisation said: “To start the challenge, readers should get down to their local library and pick up a challenge card.

“The challenges are made up of several options, from reading seven books borrowed from the library to downloading library eBooks.

“The card has seven circles, each representing a challenge, and once they are filled the card can be entered into the prize draw. Readers can take part in the challenge as many times as they want, and each time it will be submitted into the prize draw.”

There are number of prizes up for grabs including a complimentary pass to Blair Drummond Safari and Adventure Park, a family pass to Landmark in Aviemore and a Mackie’s of Scotland Hamper.

The challenge will commence on December 14 and will finish on February 29. Winners will be drawn once the challenge is complete and there will be a prize-giving on March 14.

For more information, people should speak to library staff or visit the Live Life Aberdeenshire website at www.livelifeaberdeenshire.org.uk/libraries/
