The Highland Council has launched a competition to encourage school children to get involved in helping moving towards a lower carbon source of travel

A Highland-wide competition has been launched to allow school pupils to have their say on the branding of an electric vehicle and the charging infrastructure across the region.

The initiative, entitled I Design Future, has been brought together by Highland Council to serve as a tool to help engage young people in raising awareness of electric vehicles and aiding Highland in its move towards a low carbon transport future.

Two separate competitions have been launched with the first solely for primary aged children to design a vehicle wrap for Zippy Zoe – one of the council’s electric vehicles which will travel throughout the Highlands to promote the efforts to encourage more to shift towards low carbon travel.

The second competition will involve secondary pupils who will determine the future branding of the regions electric vehicle charging infrastructure.

Anna Myeshkova, the Electric Vehicle Officer of the Climate Change Team for Highland Council, said: “Increased use of electric vehicles is an important response to the current climate and ecological emergency.

“Involving pupils, educating and enthusing them to take part in this EV initiative is potentially an important step in the fight against climate change in Highland.”

The competitions will remain open until December 2 with the winning prizes being provided by Highland Council and AES Solar.

Further information can be gained at EVManagement@highland.gov.uk where entries can also be submitted.
