An offshore worker has been banned from the roads for three years after he admitted committing his second drink-driving offence.

Conway Crayford got behind the wheel of his car on Saturday night while he was more than five times the legal limit.

Yesterday the 52-year-old appeared at Aberdeen Sheriff Court from custody and admitted committing the offence.

Fiscal depute Karen Dow said he was caught by officers on the city’s Langdykes Road at around 11.55pm and a roadside breath test showed he was more than five times over the limit.

Representing the repeat offender solicitor Kevin Longino said his client was in the process of separating from his wife.

He said he had taken the split badly and had “turned to the bottle”.

The court heard that Crayford, who works in an advisory role offshore, deeply regretted the incident.

Mr Longino said his client was well aware that he had to try to deal with his problems without turning to alcohol.

Sheriff William Taylor fined Crayford, of 3 Redmoss Walk, Aberdeen, £2,000 and disqualified him from driving for three years.
