BP has offered its assistance to Azerbaijan’s national oil company after the blaze on one of its Caspian Sea wells entered its fourth day.
The No 90 exporation well at the offshore Bulla Deniz gas field blew out on Saturday night before catching fire, but efforts to extinguish the blaze have so far failed.
“Experts of SOCAR and Ministry of Emergency Situations are working on the spot,” Socar president Rovnag Abdullayev told Azeri website APA.
“BP has also offered its help in the extinguishing process, and we have accepted their help because BP has great practice in extinguishing of such fire’.
Workers on the platform, 80km south of Baku, were evacuated safely, but despite firefighting vessels surrounding the platform and attempts to kill the well, the fire has yet to be successfully stopped.
