Lundin Petroleum has begun drilling the first development well on the Brynhild field.
The field, on the Norway-UK North Sea border, is the first of four wells to be struck in the field, which is estimated to contain a gross reserve of around 23million barrels of oil.
A subsea tie-back to the production vessel Haewene Brim, located on the UK side of the border at the Shell Pierce development, will connect to the wells.
The jack-up rig Maersk Guardian is drilling the wells, with work expected to continue on the location until mid 2014. First production is due in the last quarter of this year.
Lundin has a 90% stake in the field, with Talisman Energy taking the remaining 10%.
